Garden Grove Man Killed in Car and Motorcycle Collision

Apr 26, 2021 – A North OC motorcyclist was killed Saturday on the Ortega Highway after crashing headlong into oncoming traffic after crossing a double-yellow line, CHP says. 

 A Hyundai sedan heading westbound toward San Juan Capistrano struck the victim’s Kawasaki bike at around 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Riverside County Coroner's Bureau identified the fatality as Jeremy Bell, 50, of Garden Grove. 


Car Crashes Through Tent in COVID – 19 Drive-Through Vaccination Line at Soka University

Apr 25, 2021 – A car crashed through a tent and several outdoor restrooms close to the drive-through vaccination line for COVID-19 patients at Soka University in Aliso Viejo.

The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. Sunday morning when a car suddenly sped up and plowed through the tent and restrooms, an OC Health Care Agency spokeswoman said. The incident sent three people, including the driver of the car that accelerated, to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

What caused the car to accelerate was not known.


DUI Suspect Causes a 6-Vehicle Crash in Corona; Huntington Beach Woman Killed

April 18, 2021 – A Ford Windstar minivan driven by a Fontana man caused a six-vehicle crash on Corona’s 91 Freeway that left a woman dead. The Ford’s driver, identified as Adrian Antonio, 41, was driving as fast as 90 on Saturday, April 17 before slamming into the rear end of a Chrysler Voyager.

A man and woman sitting in the front of the Voyager were ejected from the minivan by the impact. The woman, identified as Joan McKee, 71, of Huntington Beach, died at the accident scene. Antonio was arrested on suspicion of homicide and DUI following his release from a hospital.


Car Crash on the 91 in Corona Kills Anaheim Woman

April 5, 2021 – An Anaheim woman was killed on the 91 Freeway in Corona early Sunday morning after her driver, suspected of DUI, stalled their Nissan before getting hit by a Camaro, driven by another suspected DUI driver, at an estimated 67 mph, the CHP said.

According to the Riverside County Coroner’s Office, the Nissan’s passenger who died was identified as 21-year-old Breann Alizaga. The Nissan’s driver, 22-year old Luis Alberto Leonides, of Santa Ana pulled Alizaga out of the car and placed her on the ground before fleeing the scene.

The Camaro’s driver, Baltazar Villanuevaramos, 34, of Moreno Valley, was arrested on suspicion of DUI, the CHP said. Leonides returned to the accident scene later and was likewise arrested for driving under the influence as well as a hit-and-run.


Garden Grove Two-Vehicle Crash Sends Vehicle Plunging into Pool, Kills 3

March 13, 2021 – A two-vehicle crash on Friday leaves three people dead in Garden Grove. One vehicle sheared a hydrant, plowed through a brick wall before it plunged headlong into a pool. Footage from the scene showed the overturned vehicle with its front half-submerged in the pool. The other vehicle rolled over and rested upside down on a brick wall.

One driver and passenger were killed on the spot, while the other driver died at a local hospital. The identity of the individuals involved was not immediately released.

The CHP is investigating the details that led to the crash.


Driver Killed in a Burning Vehicle, Causing Major Road Closure in Irvine

March 10, 2021 – A driver was killed inside a burning vehicle in Irvine Wednesday, March 10, causing major road closure in one direction for several hours.

A Tesla was traveling southbound on Culver Drive when it unexplainably swerved off the road and crashed into a tree. The car burst into flames and burned, killing the driver at the scene. Irvine Sgt. Karie Davies said it was probably raining at the time, but it was not known if the weather played a part in the crash.  


DUI Suspect Causes 55 Freeway Crash in Tustin, Female Passenger Killed

February 23, 2021 – A man suspected of driving under the influence collided with another vehicle early Tuesday, Feb. 23 on the 55 Freeway in the Tustin area.

A BMW sedan, driven by Anthony Robles, 27, of Rowland Heights, was traveling at unsafe speeds south on the 55 where a Lexus SUV was moving in the same direction and lane, The California Highway Patrol reported.

The BMW collided with the rear of the Lexus, which caused the SUV to overturn. Robles’ passenger, a 24-year-old Anaheim woman whose name had not yet been released, is killed on the scene.

The Lexus SUV driver, a 22-year-old Newport Beach woman, sustained what was described as “moderate” injuries. Roble, who was taken to a hospital for minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. 


1 Dead, 2 Seriously Hurt in Garden Grove Collision Between Corvette and SUV

February 16, 2021 – A 22-year-old man was killed in a collision between a Chevrolet Corvette where he was a passenger and Buick SUV in Garden Grove Monday night, Feb. 15. The Corvette swerved into oncoming traffic and collided with the SUV, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

Speeding seemed to be a factor in the crash although the investigation was in progress. Authorities were still finding out if alcohol or drugs were involved. The SUV’s driver and the two people trapped inside the Corvette were taken to a hospital.


2 People Dead in Three-Vehicle Crash in Huntington Beach

January 19, 2021 – A Sunset Beach man suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested after two people were killed in a three-vehicle collision Tuesday evening, Jan. 19 in Huntington Beach.

Suspect Eric Kinser, 35, of Sunset Beach stayed hospitalized Wednesdayand was expected to survive. According to preliminary investigation, Kinser’s Dodge Ram pickup truck which was traveling north on PCH crossed over the center line onto southbound traffic. His vehicle collided head-on with a Toyota Solara, driven by a 19-year-old Newport Beach man, and a Lexus RX350, driven by a Huntington Beach woman.

The Lexus driver, later identified as Cindy Zervos, 71-year old, died at the scene. The Solara driver, Mitchell Tyler Wade of Newport Beach, was later pronounced dead at the UC Irvine Medical Center. A female passenger in the Lexus was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.


Car Crashes into Seal Beach Pole, Driver Killed

December 19, 2020 – A man died Saturday morning, Dec. 19 after losing control of his car and rammed a pole in Seal Beach. Investigators learned the man, identified as 25-year-old Jacob Davis, was driving at high speeds southbound on PCH before losing control.

The vehicle crashed into a pole north of the intersection and drove through it before stopping. No one else was with Davis in his car. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. 


DUI Crash in Newport Beach Kills Parents, Injures 3 Daughters

December 11, 2020 – A married Santa Ana couple was killed and their three young daughters left fighting for their lives after a suspected DUI crash in Newport Beach Tuesday evening.

According to the Newport Beach Police Department, Grace Coleman, 22, suspected of driving under the influence, ran a red light. Her Range Rover collided with a Nissan, killing a married couple identified as Henry Saldana-Mejia, 27, and Gabriela Andrade, 28. Their three daughters, ages 5, 4, and 1, were seriously injured.

The suspect is facing two counts of murder, one count of DUI causing bodily injury, one count of hit and run with injury, as well as other charges. Coleman, previously charged with two counts of a misdemeanor for driving under the influence, will serve a maximum sentence of 34 years to life if convicted on all charges. 


Two-Car Crash in Newport Beach Leaves 2 Dead

December 9, 2020 – A fatal two-car crash occurred at about 7:46 p.m. near the Pelican Hill Road-Newport Coast Drive intersection in Newport Beach. According to the Newport Beach Police Department, a Range Rover collided with a Nissan where two people were killed. It was not determined if the driver of the Range Rover or anyone else was injured. 


Rear-End Crash Causes 6-Vehicle Chain Reaction Pile-Up in Anaheim, 1 Dead

October 17, 2020 – A man was killed in a six-vehicle pile-up in Anaheim Saturday, Oct. 17 which shut down both directions of Euclid between Lincoln Avenue and the 5 Freeway for several hours. According to Anaheim Police Sgt. Shane Carringer, a Mercedes-Benz SUV slammed into multiple vehicles stopped at the intersection. The driver of the initially rear-ended vehicle, later identified as Brandon Kimura, 34, died at the scene.

The woman driving the Mercedes-Benz was treated for minor injuries but may need to stay longer in the hospital because of a medical issue, Carringer said. Eight other people sustained minor injuries from the crash but turned down medical treatment. Drugs or alcohol were ruled out as factors involved in the collision.
